 Throughout the War units regularly set up semi-permanent and permanent camps. Often these camps were named after political figures (Boardman, Bradford, Preston King, Randall) or military figures (McConnell, Butler, Dix, etc.) Units re-used names, so that multiple camps with the same name appear throughout the War. For example, two Camp Bradfords existed in Maryland during the War, both presumably named after Augustus Bradford, the pro-Union Governor of Maryland. Throughout the War units regularly set up semi-permanent and permanent camps.
